SW Car Supermarket acquires two new sites in Peterborough

SW Car Supermarket has announced details of two new sites purchased in Peterborough, where its two dealerships are located.

In line with the company’s expansion plans, the acquisition of both sites will enable the SW Group to grow its used car offering to customers in 2021. Currently, its two branches – SW Car Supermarket and SW Car Superstore – hold up to 2,000 used cars in group stock.

Anton Khan, Chief Executive Officer of the SW Car Supermarket Group, shares his excitement. He says: “Given the current circumstances, it’s an exciting start to the year for us which is set to completely change the dynamic of our business. In order to expand and continue to give customers plenty of choice, we need to have a wholesale approach to what we do.”

The company prides itself on offering great quality cars at the lowest prices and is the largest independent dealer of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen vehicles in East Anglia.

Both new premises are located within a stone’s throw from the SW Car Supermarket branch, based in the Fengate area of Peterborough. The first is situated next door to the SW Car Supermarket showroom, which is perfectly placed to provide the extra handover and workshop space required.

John Marshall, Director of Operations at SW Car Supermarket Group, explains more: “What was a large engineering company is set to become our brand new handover and workshop site, which will take us up to 25 service ramps. The much-needed additional workshop space will mean that we can effectively handle up to 40 or 50 cars a day – which will be a fantastic increase for us.”

As for the second site, there’s even bigger plans in the pipeline. Located just 0.8 miles down the road from SW Car Supermarket in Fengate, Peterborough, what had previously been scrubland is now under proud ownership of the SW Group. Having been recently cleared for development, contractors are now poised to begin building work this month.

Speaking about the build, Anton says: “Acquiring this land has been really exciting for us as it is no distance at all from our SW Car Supermarket premises. At just under six acres in size, the site is huge and to think until very recently it was just scrubland.

“As for our plans, customers will be pleased to hear that the new SW site will be able to hold an additional 700 to 800 used cars, and – a first for us here at SW – around 300 used vans too! We’re very excited at the prospect of offering commercial vehicles and expanding our choice to customers.”

With the plans in full swing, this leads to new employment opportunities within Peterborough. The opening of both new premises will enable the SW Group to employ up to 50 new members of staff from the local area.

SW is passionate about the city in which it operates and is keen to provide employment opportunities to people within the communities in which it serves.

John reiterates that message, commenting: “In order to open and operate our two new sites, we’ll be recruiting an additional 40-50 team members, which given the current circumstances in our country, we are very pleased to be able to do so. Our policy is to recruit locally, so we hope to be able to begin this process very soon.”

As for the opening, no date has been formally set just yet, but it is hoped that construction work will be completed by the end of February, allowing SW to officially open its two new sites in March.

Whilst car showrooms across the country have been forced to close during the pandemic, the SW Group remains very much open for business via its click and collect, and home delivery services. Thanks to an online showroom and buying process, customers are still able to search for and purchase a used car.

The car supermarket has dedicated its efforts to provide a COVID-safe service and handover, and has recently teamed up with AnyVan to offer reliable and secure delivery to its customers in Peterborough, across East Anglia, and beyond.
